Flaming Spider Root

This body of work furthers Martha Sue's exploration of mutant plant life, this time inspired by the real-life horror of a poisonous spider bite she endured while designing her installation. In this cabinet of curiosities gone awry, she illustrates the world of nightblooming plants through such diverse media as fabric sculpture, painting, animation, and sound. While the spectre of her eight-legged culprit looms large in the show, the emotional underpinnings of her work remain thoroughly human.
