Botanica Beluosa - Monstrous Botany

Martha Sue Harris's Botanica Beluosa brings her endearing and sometimes menacing characters to the plant kingdom. Imagining plant-life that has evolved monstrous traits, Harris' strange chimerical trees, flowers, and fungi are displayed in their (un)natural habitat. For her most recent work, she takes her inspiration from oak tree plant communities of the bay area as she delves into the phenomenon of mychorhizal symbiosis - mutually beneficial relationships between plants and fungi. Her deviant vision of botany illustrates relationships and issues within the plant kingdom, but is equally imbued with insights into human emotion and interaction.
